Founded in 2001 as "Svitanje", we started with six singers performing purely a cappella arrangments. Our early members included two mother-daughter pairs, fitting for a genre in which songs have been passed from mother to daughter for centuries. One of those pairs continues to perform with us today.
While we still perform many songs without instrumentation of any kind, we now also include instrumentation in others, including traditional ethnic instruments wherever possible, such as gaida, tapan, tambura and balalaika.
New members are accepted through individual auditions which may be scheduled at any time.
Svitanya is an incorporated, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, through its voting membership in The Folk Alliance.
