Svitanya is designated a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, through its voting membership in The Folk Alliance: www.folkalliance.org. Svitanya is on the artist roster of Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour: www.PennPAT.org. This is a juried roster, for which all artists must re-apply every three years. Through PennPAT, funding may be available to support performance engagements with presenters in DC, DE, MD, NJ, NY, OH, PA, VA, WV and the US Virgin Islands. Founded in 2001 as "Svitanje" we started with six singers, including two mother-daughter pairs, all of whom had sung together in "Slaveja", an amateur group organized by students at Bryn Mawr and Haverford colleges. We changed the spelling of our name to "Svitanya" in 2004, in order to make it more accessible to English-only-speaking audiences. New members are accepted through individual auditions which may be scheduled at any time.
